Product Description

Jelight Blak-Ray® B-100A

is a 100 W high-intensity ultraviolet lamp producing 365 nm longwave UV-A illumination for fluorescence inspection, non-destructive testing, and fluorescent leak detection. Its scratch-resistant aluminum housing and detachable lamp head support handheld or hands-free operation, with standard and extended-cord configurations available.

Applications

Fluorescence Inspection

Provides concentrated 365 nm UV-A illumination for examining fluorescent dyes, coatings, markings, and other UV-responsive materials. The high-intensity output supports visual identification of fluorescent indications during laboratory, industrial, and quality control inspections.

Non-Destructive Testing

Supports fluorescent non-destructive testing procedures where longwave ultraviolet illumination is used to reveal indications on inspected components. Suitability depends on the fluorescent materials, inspection conditions, and applicable testing requirements.

Fluorescent Leak Detection

Used with compatible UV-responsive tracer dyes to help identify leaks in mechanical systems and industrial equipment. The concentrated UV-A output makes fluorescent dye indications easier to distinguish during inspection and maintenance procedures.

Features

  • High-intensity 100 W mercury-vapor lamp provides concentrated 365 nm longwave ultraviolet illumination.
  • Manufacturer-listed UV intensity of 20,000 µW/cm² at 50.8 mm (2 in) and 5,000 µW/cm² at 254 mm (10 in).
  • Scratch-resistant, powder-coated aluminum housing provides durable construction for laboratory and industrial inspection environments.
  • Detachable lamp head with pistol-grip handle supports handheld operation or hands-free positioning on the transformer base.
  • Lamp head rotates 360° when mounted on the transformer base for adjustable inspection positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the B-100A, B-100A/R, and B-100AP?

All three models provide high-intensity 100 W, 365 nm UV-A illumination. The B-100A features an aluminum housing with standard 2.44 m (8 ft) cords, while the B-100A/R uses the same aluminum housing with extended 6.1 m (20 ft) primary and secondary cords for additional mobility. The B-100AP features a heat-resistant Cool-Touch™ plastic housing instead of aluminum.

What types of fluorescence inspection can the B-100A perform?

The B-100A provides 365 nm longwave ultraviolet illumination for examining UV-responsive dyes, coatings, markings, and fluorescent indications. Applications include fluorescence inspection, compatible non-destructive testing procedures, and fluorescent leak detection. Inspection effectiveness depends on the fluorescent materials, operating conditions, and applicable testing requirements.

How long does the B-100A take to warm up and restart?

The lamp starts immediately when cool but requires approximately five minutes to reach full brightness. After shutdown, the mercury-vapor bulb typically requires four to eight minutes to cool before restarting.

What safety precautions should be followed when operating or servicing the B-100A?

The B-100A produces high-intensity ultraviolet radiation that can harm the eyes and skin. Wear appropriate UV-protective eyewear, minimize direct skin exposure, and never look directly into the illuminated lamp. The aluminum housing becomes hot during operation, so use the designated handle and avoid touching hot surfaces. Never operate the lamp with missing or damaged filter glass. Disconnect power and allow the lamp to cool completely before servicing, and follow applicable procedures for handling and disposing of mercury-containing bulbs.
