Product Description

Jelight SOG-2 Stable Ozone Generator

uses shortwave ultraviolet radiation to produce a controlled ozone stream for analyzer calibration, environmental research, materials testing, and laboratory instrument development. Rated for up to approximately 3.0 ppm ozone at a 1.0 L/min flow rate, the SOG-2 is available in 115 V and 230 V configurations with the appropriate PS-4 Pen-Ray power supply.

Applications

Ozone Analyzer Calibration

The SOG-2 provides a controlled ozone source for calibration, verification, and testing of laboratory and field ozone analyzers, sensors, and environmental monitoring instruments.

Air Pollution and Environmental Research

The generator supports atmospheric chemistry, air-pollution studies, environmental monitoring research, and experimental systems requiring a stable ozone source at controlled gas flow rates.

Materials Aging and Oxidation Testing

Controlled ozone exposure can be used to evaluate oxidation, aging, degradation, and ozone resistance in polymers, elastomers, coatings, seals, and other materials.

Water Treatment and Chemical Research

The SOG-2 can provide ozone for laboratory-scale water-treatment studies, controlled oxidation experiments, reaction testing, and other chemical research applications.

Analytical and OEM Instrument Development

The compact Pen-Ray-based system can support analytical instruments, environmental equipment, test systems, and custom laboratory apparatus requiring a controlled ozone source.

Features

  • Photochemical ozone generation using strong 185 nm ultraviolet output from a Pen-Ray mercury lamp.
  • Produces up to approximately 3.0 ppm ozone at a 1.0 L/min flow rate under specified operating conditions.
  • Designed for controlled ozone generation in analytical, environmental, and laboratory applications.
  • Suitable for operation with dry air or oxygen as the process gas.

FAQs

How does the SOG-2 generate ozone?

The SOG-2 uses strong 185 nm ultraviolet radiation from a Pen-Ray mercury lamp to photochemically convert oxygen into ozone as dry air or oxygen passes through the illuminated reaction region.

How much ozone does the SOG-2 produce?

The SOG-2 is rated for up to approximately 3.0 ppm ozone at a flow rate of 1.0 L/min under specified operating conditions. Actual ozone concentration can vary with gas composition, flow rate, lamp exposure, and system configuration.

Can the SOG-2 ozone concentration be adjusted?

Yes. Ozone production depends on operating conditions including gas flow rate, oxygen concentration, and the amount of the ozone-producing lamp exposed to the process gas. Adjustable shielding can be used to vary lamp exposure within the generator.

What gas should be used with the SOG-2?

The SOG-2 can be operated with dry air or oxygen. Gas composition and moisture content can affect ozone generation, so controlled gas conditions are recommended when repeatable output is required.

What tubing should be used with ozone?

Ozone-resistant materials should be used throughout the downstream gas path. PTFE and compatible glass components are commonly used because materials that react with ozone can reduce the concentration delivered to the test system.

What safety precautions are required when using the SOG-2?

Ozone is a strong oxidizer and can be hazardous when inhaled. The generator should be operated in a controlled laboratory system with appropriate ventilation, containment, ozone-compatible materials, and monitoring appropriate to the application and site safety procedures.
