Product Description

Quartz Inner Filter for Atlas Ci4000 and Ci4400 Weather-Ometers

is a replacement inner filter for Atlas Ci4400, Ci4000, Ci65A, Ci35A, Ci65, Ci35, and Hi65/3sun xenon-arc systems. When paired with a Type S borosilicate outer filter, it produces the Extended UV spectrum used for specified accelerated weathering and automotive material tests. It is not intended for general daylight simulation.

Applications

Automotive Interior Material Testing

The Quartz/Type S borosilicate filter combination supports specified xenon-arc exposure programs for evaluating fading, color change, cracking, embrittlement, and other light-induced changes in automotive interior materials. This filter system is associated with SAE J2412 and legacy SAE J1885 exposure programs.

Automotive Exterior Weathering

Used in prescribed Extended UV configurations for accelerated evaluation of exterior materials exposed to simulated solar radiation and environmental stress. The Quartz/Type S borosilicate system is associated with SAE J2527 and legacy SAE J1960 exposure programs.

Extended UV Material Durability Testing

The Quartz/Type S borosilicate configuration provides more short-wave UV than natural sunlight. It is appropriate when the governing method specifically requires Extended UV exposure rather than a traditional daylight or window-glass spectrum.

Research, Quality Control, and Product Validation

The filter supports established xenon-arc procedures used in material development, comparative durability testing, production quality control, and product qualification. Confirm the complete inner and outer filter arrangement before testing.

Features

  • Creates the Extended UV spectral configuration required by selected accelerated weathering and automotive exposure methods.
  • Supports test programs associated with SAE J2412 and SAE J2527 when installed as part of the complete required instrument configuration.
  • Works with the selected outer filter to establish the intended xenon-arc spectrum before radiation reaches test specimens.

Published Irradiance Ranges

The following values apply to complete filter configurations using the quartz inner filter. They describe the combined lamp, inner-filter, outer-filter, and instrument system rather than the quartz inner filter by itself.

Platform Outer-Filter Configuration Exposure Type 300–400 nm 340 nm 420 nm
 Ci4400 Type S Borosilicate Extended UV 32–161 W/m² 0.29–1.50 W/m² 0.59–2.79 W/m²
 Ci4000 Type S Borosilicate Extended UV 32–161 W/m² 0.29–1.50 W/m² 0.59–2.79 W/m²
 Ci4000 CIRA on Type S Borosilicate Extended UV with reduced infrared radiation 33–168 W/m² 0.31–1.57 W/m² 0.60–2.93 W/m²

Published ranges are based on complete instrument configurations and may vary with lamp condition, laboratory environment, facility infrastructure, and instrument generation. Confirm the applicable platform, outer filter, and test method before selecting operating conditions.

FAQs

Which instruments are compatible with the HTL quartz inner filter?

The quartz inner filter is listed for Atlas Ci4400, Ci4000, Ci65A, Ci35A, Ci65, Ci35, and Hi65/3sun xenon systems. Confirm the instrument model and existing component part number before ordering.

Which SAE methods are associated with the Quartz/Boro-S configuration?

The Quartz/Type S borosilicate filter system is associated with SAE J2412 for automotive interior materials and SAE J2527 for exterior materials. SAE J1885 and SAE J1960 are legacy predecessor methods. Verify the complete instrument configuration and current method revision before testing.

Is the quartz inner filter intended for natural-daylight simulation?

No. The Quartz/Type S borosilicate combination is an Extended UV configuration with more short-wave UV than natural sunlight. A different filter combination should be selected when a traditional daylight or closer natural-daylight spectrum is required.

How often should the Ci4000 or Ci4400 quartz inner filter be replaced?

The filter should be replaced after 400 operating hours.

What is the difference between this filter and the Type S borosilicate inner filter?

The quartz inner filter supports Extended UV exposure when paired with the appropriate outer filter. The Type S borosilicate inner filter is used for traditional daylight or window-glass configurations and should not be substituted without confirming the required test spectrum.
